Puzzling over the creation of a calendar within Google Sheets?
Constructing a rudimentary, fixed calendar template within Google Sheets is an effortless task. However, you’ll find yourself compelled to regularly update it as each month transitions.
In order to alleviate this burden and capitalize on the proficiency of Google Sheets, I’ve preemptively constructed a Google Sheets calendar template that autonomously revises the calendar whenever there’s a modification in the month or year.
Google Sheets Calendar Template on a Monthly Basis
The demonstration below exemplifies how the monthly calendar undergoes modification when selections are altered. The choice of month can be performed through the drop-down list corresponding to the months, located in cell B2, or you can manually input the year in cell B1.
Access the calendar template here. Please be informed that it will prompt you to fabricate a duplicate. To accomplish this, you must be logged into your Google account. Post duplication, the calendar is yours to utilize.
Google Sheets Calendar Template on an Annual Basis
In a manner akin to the monthly calendar, a yearly calendar is incorporated in this template (within a separate tab).
For the annual calendar, the year can be manually inputted into cell B1, after which the entire calendar will undergo an update for the designated year.
In order to enhance readability, the cells populated with a number are accentuated with a light orange color, while the vacant ones are devoid of any background color. This aspect can be effortlessly modified through the use of conditional formatting.

- Date functions: This template utilizes functions such as DAY, DATE, and WEEKDAY.
- Lookup Function: The function VLOOKUP is employed to retrieve the numeric representation of the month, integral to the calendar calculations. Note that there is a concealed sheet where this function is operational.
- Conditional Formatting: Utilized to assign colors to cells populated with a day number.
- Custom Number Formatting: This unique formatting technique enables month numbers to be depicted as month names. In the yearly calendar template, ‘January’ is visually represented, however, the backend equates it to 1 (verify this by selecting the cell and inspecting the formula bar).
