LeConte’s Sparrow

The backs and wings of LeConte Sparrows are a drab orange color with black streaks. They have a white belly with a pale orange chest. Gray patches on their cheeks and a black eye line are also visible.

Range

The Sparrows of LeConte’s breed migrate to the south-central United States and breed mostly in Canada. Over the Great Plains, they can be observed during migration.

Habitat And Diet

In dense grassland that is marshy or boggy, you can find Le’Conte’s Sparrows foraging for seeds and insects on the ground. Sadly, they are so little and reclusive that they may be difficult to locate.

Nests

LeConte’s Sparrow nests are made from grass and are located on the ground, concealed in dead grass and rushes. They lay five eggs, which take around ten days to develop.
